Features des WK 08
Our exclusive original list included heated second row seats, a tilt/telescoping steering column, the MyGIG touch-screen navigation radio, Sirius Satellite Streaming Video, a 115-volt power outlet and a new 3-valve 4.7L engine with increased horsepower and torque.
We now have more exclusive details on additional features that will be offered on the 2008 models, including, for the first time on a Jeep vehicle, HID projector headlamps. The new lamps will be an available option on the 2008 models of the Grand Cherokee Limited, Overland and SRT8. Pricing is expected to be around $550-$600 for HID option. We can also reveal that HID headlamps will be offered on 2008 models of the Jeep Commander.
Off-road enthusiasts will two more new features, Hill Ascent Control and Hill Descent Control:
The Hill Ascent control feature assists the driver when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill by maintaining the same level of brake pressure the driver applied for a short period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal. The system will release the brake pedal in proportion to the amount of throttle applied. If the throttle is not applied within a short period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal, Hill Ascent Control will release brake pressure.
Hill Descent control allows a smooth and controlled hill descent on rough or slippery terrain without the driver needing to touch the brake pedal. This system applies the brakes to each wheel individually when needed to reduce forward motion while negotiating down steep grades.
Trailer Sway Control is another new feature that will be offered on Grand Cheokees equipped with trailer tow packages. Trailer Sway Control reduces trailer sway (an alternating yaw of the vehicle) and improves handling in adverse towing conditions caused by crosswinds and traffic, provides trailer stability and increases towing safety. The system monitors the vehicle’s movement relative to the driver’s intended path, and the vehicle yaw sensor recognizes sway. Trailer Sway Control applies brake pressure on one front wheel to counteract the yaw induced by the trailer and applies brake pressure to all four wheels to slow the vehicle. As the trailer sways to the other side of the vehicle, Trailer Sway Control will increase pressure to the opposite side of the vehicle. The system will continue to apply alternating brake pressure and reduce engine torque until the trailer is under control.
Engines: As officially announced earlier this year, Jeep will be offering a new 3.0L diesel engine in the 2007 Grand Cherokee Laredo, Limited and Overland models. Production of models with the new diesel engine will start February 22, 2007. The diesel will continue for the 2008 model year, along with the 5.7L MDS Hemi and the 6.1L SRT8 Hemi. A new 3-valve version of the 4.7L engine is set to debut for 2008, with increased horsepower and torque numbers.
Other expected changes for 2008, the 4th year of the WK generation, will include some interior upgrades and refreshening as well as some minor exterior changes.
